Mosquitoes like it warm and damp near water. That’s where they lay their eggs. Even small puddles can have mosquitoes. To stop them, we spray an anti-mosquito fogger. It kills the bugs and their nests, so the eggs can’t hatch. But that’s not all! We also do other things to make sure they don’t come back. We can’t promise there won’t ever be any more mosquitoes, but you should see a big difference in the number of them on your property soon after we do our first treatment.
Anopheles
Anopheles mosquitoes are called malaria mosquitoes, and they can be found all over the U.S. It has been a long time since someone in the U.S. has gotten malaria from a mosquito, but these bugs are still linked to it. They are dark in color and can be identified by how they drink blood. The female stands at a 45-degree angle, which is different from other mosquitoes that stay flat on the skin. After the female mosquito feeds, she will lay eggs in shallow, still water. The eggs will hatch in 2 days to 2 weeks.
Aedes
Two kinds of Aedes mosquitoes can be found in the US. Aedes aegypti usually only bite people, and Aedes albopictus bite people and animals. The Aedes aegypti are more likely to have germs that cause viruses like zika, dengue, and chikungunya. These mosquitoes usually live in warm, humid areas. They have black and white stripes and lay eggs in still water. They like to bite people around the feet and legs, and they sometimes come into homes looking for cool places to rest.
Culex
Culex mosquitos come in many colors, like gray or white, and can be sparkly with blue, green, and silver. They are tiny and can be hard to spot. Usually, they like to get their food from birds, but if there are no birds around, they will bite people. At dawn and dusk, Culex mosquitoes come out to look for places with still water. They will lay their eggs on the surface of this water. The eggs will join together to form rafts. These rafts can be seen floating on the surface.
Mosquitoes are usually found around areas with standing water. This could be a lake, pond, marsh, or even a kiddy pool or bird bath. When people or animals are around, mosquitoes come too. They can smell the carbon dioxide from the people and animals. They also use body heat and sweat to find food.
How to treat mosquito bites
Caring for mosquito bites is easy. First, clean the spot with water. Then, put an ice pack on it to make the swelling and itching go away. If the itching still doesn’t stop, put a mix of baking soda and water paste on the spot and leave it there for 10 minutes. Aloe vera is something else that can help stop the itch. If the itching is really bad, try using some over-the-counter antihistamine cream. Don’t scratch that mosquito bite, even though it's hard not to. If you do scratch, it could make the bite worse and lead to an infection.
If you have too many mosquitos and DEET or the other natural methods don’t help, it may be time to call a pest control service.
Our Wolverine Pest Control Outdoor Package is perfect for getting rid of those pesky mosquitoes. We first take a look at your yard to find out which spots need help. Then, we use a special sprayer on our back to put the pest control stuff in the areas that need it. This stuff not only gets rid of the bugs, but also prevents more eggs from being laid in the water.
